%X The resevoirs develop the role of water storage, destinated to mutiple uses. For that, its necessary to keep an storage volume and do a constant monitoring of these values, in order they compply with necessary demands. So, the use of remote sensing provides a continuous follow up of the water surface, in order to estimate the storage of water in big lakes. Because that, the present job intended to use the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) of MODIS sensor to quantify layer of water of Sobradinho reservatory, and, from them, calculate the volume for the years 2001 and 2010, respectively dry and rainy period in the region. The metodology used orbitals products and SIG software that allowed a multitemporal study of these parameters. It was also used the Gao et al. (2012) adapted equation for volume calculation. Comparing the period of resevoirs larger area at 2001 and 2010 years, its observed that the first year corresponds to 79% of water body when compared to the last analised year, also 2001 flood period area closer to water body area at 2010 dry period. The results of Sobradinhos reservoir storage capacity for analised years, obtained through the adopted method in this work, showed up consistent with the ammounts provided by CHESF, highlighting the potential of this research at resevoir capacity monitoring by remote sensing.
